Villanova Names Tom Carlin Associate Athletics Director

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Tom Carlin, who served as Villanova's head men's soccer coach for 16 seasons from 2008-23, has been named Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Planning and Revenue Generation, it was announced today.

In this new position, Carlin will support the overall mission of the athletic department with a concentration on all areas of revenue generation and the planning and usage of Athletics facilities.

"Tom has been a trusted and valued member of our department for a long time as a head coach and we're excited for him to take on this new role for Villanova Athletics," stated Villanova Vice President/Director of Athletics Mark Jackson. "Tom has a very sharp entrepreneurial mindset and has built a wonderful network with both on campus and off campus relationships that will position us well generating revenue and strategically thinking about our future."

Carlin posted a 222-156-43 record in a coaching career that began at his alma mater, Arcadia University, in 2000. In 2007, Carlin was hired as the associate head coach at Villanova and a year later was named its head coach. He is the program's all-time leader in victories (122) guiding Villanova to the 2016 and 2021 NCAA Tournaments. A 1-0 victory at Vermont in 2021 gave the Wildcats their first NCAA Tournament victory.

"This is an unbelievable opportunity for me to remain a part of a community that has meant so much to me and my family," said Carlin. "I am grateful to Father Peter and Mark Jackson for their confidence in my ability to transition from coaching to this new role. I'm excited to be a part of Mark's team and can't wait to work alongside all the coaches that I have so much respect for as we continue to build the student-athlete experience at Villanova."

In November 2023, Carlin announced his retirement from coaching. In conjunction with that news, Villanova announced former associate head coach Mark Fetrow would succeed Carlin as its new head men's soccer coach.
