New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.
 Â
VILLANOVA, Pa.—The only team to play in every single iteration of the men's lacrosse BIG EAST Championship is headed back there again. Villanova clinched its spot in the four-team conference tournament later this month with a thrilling overtime road victory at Marquette. Members of the women's track & field distance group put up some of the top times in school history as their outdoor campaign continues in full swing, while the men's and women's tennis squads wrapped up their 2025-26 seasons in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship. It was a busy week on the Main Line, and 10 student-athletes landed a spot on this week's Villanova Athletics Weekly Wrap sponsored by Zajac and Padilla.
Â
Baseball
JP Podgorski
Sophomore, Pitcher, Sewell, N.J.
Â
Podgorski tied his season high with four innings pitched in the series opener against Creighton on Friday afternoon. He did not give up a hit until there were two outs in the third inning and he eventually tossed four innings of scoreless, two-hit ball before departing the game with a 4-0 lead. Podgorski faced three batters over the minimum, struck out three and avoided trouble in the fourth inning with a line drive double play to end his outing.
Â
Golf
Ryan Pamer
Senior, Hudson, Ohio
Â
In a step up in competition last week at the West Virginia Invite, Pamer shot five-under-par over 54 holes at Pete Dye Golf Course and tied for fifth place out of more than 100 golfers. He was the only Villanova player to record a round below par during the tournament, and he did so in consecutive rounds to finish with scores of 72-69-70 (211, -5). Pamer started the final round on fire and was five-under through his first 12 holes, including an eagle on the 337-yard, par-4 sixth hole. He tied for second in the field with 16 birdies during the tournament.
Â
Men's Lacrosse
Nick Lucchesi
Junior, Midfield, Villanova, Pa.
Â
Lucchesi scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Villanova rallied past Marquette to clinch a spot in the BIG EAST Championship later this month. Lucchesi has scored a goal in a season-high four straight games, none of them bigger than his tally with 2:44 to play in the first extra period on Saturday. The Wildcats trailed 15-12 midway through the fourth quarter before scoring three times in the last 4:29 of regulation and eventually netting the game-winner on Lucchesi's 11th goal of the season. It is the team's second overtime win of the season.
Â
Women's Lacrosse
Elena Torres
Redshirt Junior, Attack, Tustin, Calif.
Â
Torres recorded her sixth multi-goal game of the season and third with at least a hat trick as the Wildcats hosted nationally ranked Georgetown last week. She led the team with four points on the day, scoring three goals while dishing out an assist. Torres took seven shots in the game and scored on 2-of-3 free-position shots. She increased her season totals to 21 goals, 13 assists, 34 points and seven free-position goals.
Softball
Lexi Kobryn
Sophomore, Pitcher/Offensive Player, Hillsborough, N.J.
Â
Kobryn earned the win against George Mason on Saturday with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in the first game of a doubleheader. She entered the game with two outs in the third inning just after the Patriots scored their only run. Kobryn allowed just a hit and a walk the rest of the way while striking out four to pick up her third win of the year. Earlier in the week, Kobryn was 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a walk against Towson in a game where she also started in the circle.
Â
Men's Tennis
Quincy Jones (Sophomore, New Haven, Conn.)
Jack Sherner (Sophomore, Alexandria, Va.)
Â
Villanova wrapped up its season in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship on Friday. Despite being matched up against the top seed and eventual tournament champion St. John's, the duo of Jones and Sherner posted a 6-3 victory in their No. 3 doubles match against the Red Storm.
Â
Women's Tennis
Miriam Gondorova
Junior, Humenne, Slovakia
Â
Gondorova went undefeated at the BIG EAST Championship with both a singles win and a doubles victory in two team matches. She and sophomore Olivia Corcoran teamed up for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles in the first round of the conference tournament. Gondorova was later ahead in her match at No. 3 singles (6-3, 4-1) when Villanova clinched the team win and a spot in the quarterfinal round the next day. Facing #3 seed St. John's a day later, she knocked off Nao Kojima at No. 3 singles in a dominant 6-2, 6-1 showing. The Wildcats lost the team decision 4-1, but Gondorova and Corcoran were tied 4-4 in their No. 3 doubles match when the doubles point was clinched.
Â
Men's Outdoor Track & Field
Liam Gluck
Sophomore, Sprints, Beavercreek, Ohio
Â
Gluck lowered his personal best in the 400 meter hurdles for the second straight week and led a group of Villanova sprinters in the 400 meters during the Virginia Challenge this past weekend. He posted a time of 53.63 in the hurdles on Friday night and cut more than a second off his previous PR of 54.69 which had been recorded just six days earlier. Gluck came back on Saturday afternoon and had a time of 48.88 in his first open 400 meter race of the outdoor season.
Â
Women's Outdoor Track & Field
Bella Walsh
Sophomore, Middle Distance, Wilmington, Del.
Â
Villanova's distance group keeps rolling and Walsh was in the middle of it on Friday night when she cruised to a lifetime best of 4:13.56 in the 1500 meters. That mark puts her onto the Wildcats all-time performance list at No. 8 and, more importantly, impacts this season's BIG EAST and East Region descending order lists. Walsh moved up to second place in the BIG EAST and is tied for 29th in the East Region entering this week's meets around the country.
