NEW YORK, N.Y. – Villanova (7-5, 1-2 BIG EAST) took down St. John's (4-9, 1-2 BIG EAST)14-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats used a 7-1 second quarter to cruise to victory.
The Red Storm jumped out to a 2-1 lead early in the opening quarter as
Thomas McIntire got the Wildcats on the board. Villanova responded with three quick goals courtesy of McIntire and
Mason Reale to take their first lead. St. John's would cut the lead to one and that was the closest they would get as the 'Cats poured in four consecutive goals to take a 8-3 lead into the halftime break.
Luke Raymond opened the second half scoring with a rocket into the net to grow the lead.
Lucas Newton recorded one of his three assists as
Dan Martin scored in the third quarter to give Villanova its largest lead of the afternoon at 12-5. The sides traded blows the rest of the way as the Red Storm got within five in the closing seconds of the game.
Reale led the way with a hat trick and an assist.
Colin Michener recorded his seventh hat trick of the season as
Matt Licata had two goals. The pair has scored in every game this season. McIntire finished with two goals and
David Link scored his third goal of the season in the win.
Anthony Wilson bounced back with a 12 save performance in the cage.

Ryan Cunningham was an impressive 9-13 in the circle as he gained possession in key moments for the 'Cats.
George Glomb went 6-12 alongside Cunningham
St. John's was led by Jake Wright with three goals in the contest. Goalie Kyle Munson recorded 11 saves in the loss.
