PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Villanova's incredible 2024 season came to an end on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats fell to No. 18 Wagner and La Salle in MAAC action and were the first team out of the MAAC Tournament field.
Against Wagner,
Sara Withers picked up a hat trick as
Tiffany Maguire and
Emily McKenzie each scored two goals. The 'Cats assisted on nine of ten goals in the game.
Amelia Baca had a hat trick against La Salle with
Anna Painter and
Stella Byles scoring two goals apiece.
Byles concluded her illustrious Villanova career finishing with 243 goals, the fifth most in program history. Her 76 goals this season tied assistant coach
Kaysie Stuba for eighth most all-time. She is now third all-time with 372 points after putting up 124 points this season, the third most in a single season.
Abigail Shelby finished her career in fourth place with 481 career saves and is tied for second with 35 career goalie wins.
Withers notably broke the single game assists record when she poured in seven in the win over Whittier on March 2. Her 49 assists this season is tied for the sixth most in program history. McKenzie finished her junior season with 64 goals and 19 field blocks, the third most all time in a season. Right behind her at fourth is
Anna Painter who had 18 this season.
The future is bright for the 'Cats as freshmen
Tiffany Maguire,
Emmie Mallory and
Lauren Short combined for 82 goals and 73 assists this season. The team as a whole found the back of the net 402 times and assisted on 288 of them.
Michael Gordon and
Kaysie Stuba did a remarkable job coaching their team this season. Both in the first season at their respective positions, they led the 'Cats to 21 wins, the second most all time and most since 1999. They will get to work this offseason and look to be even better next season.
