NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Following a critical BIG EAST victory over Marquette to send the Wildcats into their second straight BIG EAST Tournament, Villanova women's lacrosse received a trio of the league's last set of weekly awards. First-year
Mary Moore earned the only Midfielder of the Week honor for Villanova this season,
Emma Verhoest picked up her third Freshman of the Week and
Sami Carey was recognized on the final weekly honor roll.
Moore was all over the field for the 'Cats on Saturday, leading her side with four goals while adding a career-high three assists. The first-year midfielder added five draw controls to tie her most this season as she put forth her highest point total of the year as well.
Verhoest was dominant in the draw circle, collecting 10 DCs for herself while leading her side to a 22-13 edge against one of the BIG EAST's other top draw takers. Despite only being in her freshman season, the Massachusetts native already ranks in Villanova's top ten for career and single season draw controls and DCs per game.
Carey was the star of the show in Villanova's critical win over Marquette, tallying a career-high 10 points with two goals and a career-best eight assists for the top single game mark in the BIG EAST this year. The junior assisted on Villanova's first three goals then added three more fourth-quarter helpers as Villanova came from behind to clinch its postseason berth.
The Wildcats will head to Cincinnati for the 2024 BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship Presented By JEEP, taking on the #1 seed Denver Pioneers at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
