PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Villanova junior guard
Lucy Olsen was announced on Tuesday as the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year, while Penn's
Mataya Gayle was named Rookie of the Year, and Saint Joseph's head coach
Cindy Griffin was chosen as Philadelphia Big 5 Coach of the Year.
Penn guard
Lizzy Groetsch was chosen as the Big 5 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Olsen earned the Most Improved Player Award.
Olsen is joined on the All-Big 5 first team by the Penn duo of
Jordan Obi and
Stina Almquist, Temple's
Tiarra East, along with
Talya Brugler and
Laura Ziegler from Saint Joseph's.
The All-Big 5 second team features Gayle,
Mackenzie Smith from Saint Joseph's, Temple's
Aleah Nelson, and the Villanova tandem of
Bella Runyan and
Christina Dalce.
There were also two Honorable Mention honorees, including La Salle's
Nicole Melious and
Chloe Welch from Saint Joseph's.
Olsen was recognized as the Big 5 leading scorer averaging 23.3 points per game average, while Brugler was the top free throw shooter at .867 (111-128).
