CINCINNATI, OHIO– The Wildcats take second game over Xavier, 8-6, in Cincinnati
Game two saw both teams go back and forth with runs in the early innings. Villanova got the scoring starting with two runs in the first inning.
Jason Neff grounded out to the shortstop, allowing
Michael Whooley to open the scoring.
Dylan Dennis added to that with an RBI-single up the middle, scoring
Jack O'Reilly.
Xavier responded in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own on an error by Villanova and an RBI-single. In the fourth inning, a sacrifice fly gave Xavier a 3-2 lead.
In the sixth, a set of home runs tied the game for Villanova and gave them the lead.
Jason Neff tied the game at three with a solo home run to left field. Two batters later,
John Whooley followed with a two-run shot to left center, giving the Wildcats a 5-3 lead.
Jack O'Reilly grew the lead to 8-3 in the eighth inning. In a bases loaded situation, O'Reilly doubled to right field, clearing the bases.
One swing of the bat brought Xavier within two runs in the eighth. Hayden Christiansen hit a three-run shot to left field, bringing the score to 8-6. Their comeback attempt fell short, giving Villanova a second straight victory over Xavier.
