EUGENE, Ore.—The sixth night of competition at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials featured Villanova women's alumna Angel Piccirillo racing in the semifinal round of the 1500 meters. Piccirillo posted a time of 4:10.39 in the first of two heats and placed eighth in her heat. She had been an on-time qualifier coming out of the first round a day earlier.
The semifinals of the 1500 meters were as hotly contested as the first round heats, with nine runners in the field of 24 having achieved the Olympic standard this season. Piccirillo moved up two spots after the opening lap and held that position for the remainder of her race. She wound up 20th overall after the second heat had been completed.
It has been a successful year to date for Piccirillo, who finished sixth in the 800 meters at the USA Indoor Championships in February and came within half a second of her lifetime PR in the 1500 meters when she ran 4:05.82 in her outdoor season debut at Wake Forest in April. In the lead up to the Olympic Trials she also competed at the Penn Relays and USATF Grand Prix events in Los Angeles and New York.
