Poplar Set to Join Wildcats in 2024-25

Philadelphia native played last three seasons at University of Miami

VILLANOVA, Pa., - Philadelphia native Wooga Poplar today signed a financial aid agreement to enroll at Villanova and play for the Wildcats in 2024-25. The 6-5 guard spent the last three seasons at the University of Miami.

Poplar is a 2021 graduate of Philadelphia's Math, Civics and Science Charter School. As a junior at Miami, he averaged 13.1 points and 4.8 rebounds a game in 29 games for the Hurricanes. In 2022-23, he averaged 8.4 points per game as a key contributor to Miami's march to the NCAA Final Four, including a 16-point effort in an 88-81 Elite Eight triumph over Texas.

"We're excited to bring another tough Philly guard to our team," said Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune. "Wooga is an explosive athlete and big-time scorer. He does a great job playing off his shot, and attacking mismatches. At the other end of the court, he is a big-time defender that impacts winning."

Poplar joins a revamped Wildcats guard corps that features fellow transfers Jhamir Brickus (La Salle) and Tyler Perkins (Penn) alongside returnee Jordan Longino. Villanova also added forward Enoch Boakye (Fresno State) from the transfer portal last week and welcomed back its leading scorer and rebounder in 2023-24, Eric Dixon as well.
