Villanova University senior linebacker Shane Hartzell (Perkasie, Pa.) and graduate student cornerback Isas Waxter (Newark, N.J.) have been named to the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America list. Waxter made the second team while Hartzell landed a spot on the third team.
 
Hartzell helped lead Villanova to a 10-3 overall record and the 2023 CAA championship by tallying a team-high 91 tackles (50 solo stops) to go with six tackles for loss, four quarterback sacks and one interception.
 
Waxter was one of the team's most dynamic defensive players a year ago and started all 13 games while recording 26 tackles, including four tackles for loss. He added three interceptions and eight pass breakups to his stat line and was part of a defense that ranked sixth nationally during the regular season by allowing just 290.2 total yards per game.
 
The Wildcats, who are the preseason pick to win the 2024 CAA championship, will open the season on Thursday, Aus. 29, when Youngstown State visits Villanova Stadium.
