CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova University field hockey team will open BIG EAST play against Georgetown on Friday (Sept. 20) at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds, before traveling to Williamsburg, Va., to face head coach
Joanie Milhous' alma mater William & Mary on Monday (Sept. 22) at Busch Field. Both games are scheduled to start at noon and Friday's game will be streamed live on FloSports.
The Wildcats (3-3) are coming off a 1-1 week, falling on Friday (Sept. 13) at No. 10-ranked Saint Joseph's, 6-2, before defeating La Salle 2-0 on Monday (Sept. 16). The shutout against La Salle was sophomore goalkeeper
Maddi Sears' second of the season.
Georgetown fell to 1-4 last weekend after a pair of one-goal losses to Towson (Sept. 13) and Rider (Sept. 15). The Hoyas are led by freshman Colleen Maloney, who has a team-best two goals this season, including the team's lone game-winner against Lock Haven (Sept. 6).
The Wildcats will seek their second win in just seven games against William & Mary (0-6). Sunday's game will be the first matchup between the two schools since 2004, when the Tribe bested the Wildcats by a score of 4-3. In 2024, William & Mary has scheduled a challenging slate of opponents, having already faced four nationally ranked teams in six games. Senior midfielder Pyper Friedman has scored both of the Tribe's goals this season.
Fifth year forward
Sabine de Ruijter has scored a team-best five goals, including one in each of the Blue and White's last three games. She will look to become one of 17 Wildcats to score a goal in four straight games on Friday.
