NEW YORK – Villanova fifth year forward
Sabine de Ruijter has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday (Sept. 24).
De Ruijter earned the award after scoring three goals in two games during the week. She posted one goal and one assist in the Wildcats' 6-1 win over Georgetown on Friday (Sept. 20). Then, she added two goals on Sunday (Sept. 22) – including a game-winner in double overtime – to lift Villanova to a win over William & Mary.
The Huizen, Netherlands native has scored seven of her team- and BIG EAST-leading eight goals in Villanova's last five games, leading the Wildcats to a 4-1 record during that span. She is currently leading the Wildcats in goals, points (18), and shots on goal (28).
The award marks the third conference player of the week award of de Ruijter's career. On Oct. 31 of 2023, she was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, and she earned Rookie of the Week as a freshman in the Covid-19-delayed 2020 season (March 15, 2021).
De Ruijter and the Wildcats will look to continue their three-game winning streak this weekend when they host BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac on Friday (Sept. 27) at 1 p.m. and No. 7-ranked Iowa on Sunday (Sept. 29) at noon. Both games will be played at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds and will be streamed live on FloSports.
