CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova University field hockey team will look to continue its three-game winning streak this weekend, hosting BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac on Friday (Sept. 27) at 1 p.m. and No. 7-ranked Iowa on Sunday (Sept. 29) at noon. Both games will be played at the Conshohocken Proving Grounds and will be streamed live on FloSports.
Villanova enters the weekend slate on a three-game winning streak, with wins over La Salle (2-0, Sept. 16), Georgetown (6-1, Sept. 20) and William & Mary (2-1 2OT, Sept. 22). Sunday's double overtime win over William & Mary was highlighted by fifth year forward
Sabine de Ruijter, who scored two goals -- including the game-winner -- to lead the 'Cats.
De Ruijter has scored a goal in five straight games entering Friday. She has a team- and conference-leading eight goals on the season and was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 24).
The Wildcats are 8-3 all-time against Quinnipiac and have won seven of their last eight games against the Bobcats. Quinnipiac is 2-6 in 2024 and 0-1 in the BIG EAST, with wins over Stonehill (Sept. 8, 2OT) and Merrimack (Sept. 15). The Bobcats are led by freshman Francisca Eschoyez, who leads the team in goals (7) and points (15).
Villanova's first top 10 opponent of the season -- the seventh-ranked Hawkeyes -- enter the weekend at 4-2 (0-1 Big Ten) with a key win over then-No. 18 Wake Forest (1-0 [3-2 SO], Aug. 30). Iowa is led by sophomore Dionne van Aalsum, who scored a Division I-leading 28 goals in 2023. In the only matchup between the Hawkeyes and Villanova, the Wildcats picked up a 5-1 win (Sept. 9, 2006).
Sunday's game against Iowa will also be Villanova's annual faculty appreciation day, where members of the Villanova University faculty and staff will be recognized during the game.
