VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova Rowing head coach
Carissa Adams unveiled her team's spring schedule on Monday.
The Wildcats are slated to compete in two scrimmages and four regattas. Three of the spring's events will keep the 'Cats close to home with short trips to Pennsauken N.J. in March, April and May. The furthest bit of travel will be a spring-opening training trip down to Florida where the team will take on Jacksonville on March 8 in Gainesville, Fla. Villanova's other scrimmage will take it to Allentown, Pa. to face Lehigh on March 22.
Villanova's first regatta of the spring will be the Doc Hosea on March 29 in Pennsauken, N.J. Last year's showing in the event saw all three of Villanova's boats make the Petite Final, logging sixth place finishes in each of those.
Another familiar event comes shortly after as the team heads back to the Cooper River for its fourth consecutive outing at the Knecht Cup on April 12 and 13. Last year's first day of racing was canceled leading to a busy second day of action where the V8 picked up the team's highest finish with a second-place showing in its heat.
April concludes with a trip to Raleigh N.C. for the 2025 Lake Wheeler Invitational April 25 and 26. This will be Villanova's first trip to the annual intercollegiate rowing event that is co-hosted by Duke and North Carolina. Last year's event was packed with nationally ranked sides with nine of the 18 teams in the field either receiving points in the Pocock CRCA Poll or being in the top 20. Tennessee, ranked No. 5 in the nation at the time of the invite, sat atop the final point standings last year with 99 points, followed by No. 16 Duke and (RV) UCF.
Two weeks later, the Coastal Athletic Association Championship brings the 'Cats back to the area for two days of racing May 16 and 17. Villanova finished sixth at the championship last year with 21 points. All three boats took at least six seconds off their heat times in the finals, leading the team to score its fourth-most points at the event in program history and matching the 2022 team's point total. Kara Dempsey was tabbed an All-CAA honoree for the first time in her career after helping the Varsity Eight to a fourth-place finish in the Grand Final. Both the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight won their Petite Final races.
