VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova Wildcats (12-8 overall, 5-4 BIG EAST) fly from the frigid northeast to the frigid midwest for a Friday night clash with No. 10 Marquette (16-3 overall, 7-1 BIG EAST) at 7 p.m.
Â
FS1 will carry this game from Fiserv Forum with Connor Onion and Stephen Bardo on site to describe the action. Ryan Fannon and
Whitey Rigsby will have the call on the Villanova Sports Network on IHeart 9Fox Sports Philadelphia and Sirius XM channel 380).
Â
The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a 64-63 loss to Georgetown Monday night at Finneran Pavilion. The Hoyas scored the game's final nine points to seize the win.
Â
Senior guard
Jordan Longino (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) has averaged 14.0 points across his last six outings, including an 18-point effort against the Hoyas.
Â
"A lot of it," said Longino, "is being healthy. A lot of it is a credit to the coaching staff and my teammates for instilling confidence in me. Just being an older guy, a senior in this program, gives you experience as to what it takes to be effective in college."
Â
The Wildcats played the final 32 minutes without their second leading scorer,
Wooga Poplar, after he was ejected following an incident in front of the Georgetown bench. Poplar's ejection was deemed to be a "flagrant two" violation, which does not carry additional penalties beyond the removal from that game.
Â
Fiserv Forum has been a challenging venue for the entire BIG EAST in recent seasons and the Wildcats can attest to that. They are 1-4 since the arena debuted as the successor to the Bradley Center in 2019 and the sole victory came in December 2020, when fans were not permitted inside the facility during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Last season, Marquette connected on .587 of its field goal attempts in an 87-74 triumph over the Wildcats. The Golden Eagles swept all three games between the teams, including a 71-65 overtime win in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal at Madison Square Garden.
Â
This game concludes a hectic stretch for the Wildcats. Friday night's meeting is the squad's eighth game in 24 days. The Wildcats have a midweek bye next week and won't return to game action again until Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Creigthon at the Wells Fargo Center at 1 p.m.
