FH Drops Game To Old Dominion At Home Friday

'Cats Fall to Monarchs 4-1

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova field hockey team fell to Old Dominion, 4-1, in a home matchup on Friday, October 10.

The opening period featured plenty of back-and-forth action, with both teams generating four shots apiece, including two on goal. Old Dominion struck first 11 minutes into the contest when Avery Jackson found the back of the cage. Villanova responded shortly after, as Ava Borkowski notched her seventh goal of the season off a well-executed corner play. Addie Froehlich and Gemma Lysaght were credited with assists on the play.

The second period turned into a defensive battle. With time winding down in the half, Old Dominion regained the lead, scoring with just 45 seconds remaining. At halftime, the Monarchs held a narrow 5-4 edge in shots.

Both teams struggled to generate consistent offense in the third period. Villanova managed the only shot of the frame, but the ODU goalkeeper turned it away to preserve the lead. Old Dominion sealed the win in the fourth period, converting two of their five shot attempts to extend the advantage to 4-1. Villanova's offense came alive late, producing 11 shots and nine penalty corners in the final quarter, but the Wildcats couldn't break through.

Following the match, Head Coach Joanie Milhous credited Old Dominion for their strong performance and noted her team's improved energy in the second half but emphasized the need to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Borkowski's goal marked her team-leading seventh of the season and gave her 14 total points, also the most on the team this year.
