Newark, NJ – Villanova men's swimming and diving wrapped up a strong showing at the NJIT Invitational, finishing third overall with a team score of 849.5. The Wildcats turned in several top finishes throughout the meet, highlighted by two new additions to the program record book in the first meet of the season.
Freshman
Hugh Boris notched two program record book finishes, winning the 200 breast to become the second-fastest performer in Villanova history. With a time of 2:00.32, he finished just 0.06 seconds off the program record. Freshman
Carter Gray also made his mark, placing third in the event with a 2:03.08, a time that ranks him as the 10th-fastest performer in program history.
Boris added another win in the 100 breast (56.27), followed by junior
Wade Weston in second (57.05) and junior
Aiden Bunker in fourth (59.12).
Villanova swept the podium in the 400 IM, with Freshman
Max Kunisaki taking first (4:00.10), followed closely by Junior
Max Christensen (4:01.70) and Gray (4:03.88).
In the 1650 Free, sophomore
Owen Nye claimed victory with a time of 16:02.33. He was followed by senior
Patrick Casey in second (16:10.43) and junior
Brady Tierney in fourth (16:34.98). Nye also took fifth in the 200 free (1:43.49), while senior
Gavin Jones won the event with a time of 1:42.53.
In the 200 back, freshman
Quinn O'Mara finished second (1:51.99), followed by Christensen in third (1:53.37) and junior
Josh Seidman in fourth (1:53.84). In the 100 back, sophomore
Cole Gorsuch earned second place (51.85), while Seidman finished fourth (52.63).
In the 100 fly, sophomore
Zach Sutter placed third (50.04), senior
Sam Randall finished fourth (50.14), and sophomore
Melson Arquillano took fifth (51.13). In the 200 fly, freshman
Michael Anderson secured second place (1:53.20), followed by Arquillano in sixth (1:55.35) and Casey in eighth (2:01.69).
Randall led the Wildcats in the 100 Free, finishing second (46.53). He was followed by Kunisaki (46.65), Jones (47.04), and Sutter (47.09), giving Villanova four swimmers in the top five.
In the relays, the 200 free relay team opened the day with a strong swim, finishing in 1:23.57. The 400-medley relay A team placed second (3:24.57), with the B and C teams finishing fifth (3:29.89) and sixth (3:32.95), respectively.
The men return to action on Oct. 25 at Georgetown, while the women hit the road to face Seton Hall on Oct. 17 and UConn on Oct. 18.
