NEW YORK – For the second time this season, Villanova has three players on the BIG EAST women's soccer weekly award list, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Kate Dobsch and
Avrie Nelsen earned major awards as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively, while
Alex Little was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
These honors mark the first of their careers for both Dobsch and Little while Nelsen has been recognized twice now. The trio played a crucial role in Villanova's 1-0 win over St. John's on Sunday, marking the program's first win at St. John's in 25 years.
Dobsch played all 90 minutes on Saturday, helping the Villanova defense hold St. John's to just two shots and none on frame, the second time this season that the 'Cats have done so to an opponent. The result was the seventh shutout of the year for the 'Cats. She also had a shot attempt in the victory.
Nelsen made her 12
th stats in 13 appearances, landing one of her two shots on frame in her 58 minutes of action. She has had at least one shot attempt in three consecutive games.
Little netted the quickest goal of the season for Villanova with the game-winner in the 12
th minute. It was the first game-winning goal of her career and her first goal since Sept. 3, 2023.
Villanova is home on Wednesday as Marquette comes to town for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
