FH Heads To Washington To Take Georgetown And American

'Cats Take Trip To D.C. On Two Game Win Streak

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Villanova University field hockey team will head to Washington to take on BIG EAST foe Georgetown Friday (October 3) at 1:00 p.m. Then they will stay on the road to face American Sunday (October 5) at 1:00 p.m.

The 'Cats are coming off a stellar weekend last week. To begin, Villanova took down BIG EAST opponent Temple, 2-0. It was mainly a defensive battle through the first half of action until junior Colleen Finnan broke the deadlock and got the Wildcats on the board. Early in the fourth, graduate student Ava Borkoski notched her fourth goal of the season which was the dagger. After that win, VU hosted #15 Saint Joseph's. The 'Cats were able to pull of a huge upset in a thrilling 2-1 win. Freshman Erin Mitchell sealed the deal with a game winning goal in the third quarter. Freshman Sophie Volkel had an outstanding day, tallying eight saves on nine shots. The great weekend earned Volkel BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, and Finnan and Gemma Lysaght BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Georgetown has started the year with a 2-7 record through the first nine games. After starting the campaign with a close 2-1 win over Davidson, the Hoyas' other win on the season came against Lock Haven, winning 4-1. The seven losses for Georgetown have been to App State, Sacred Heart, Richmond, VCU, Temple, Providence, and Holy Cross. Last season when the 'Cats faced Georgetown, Villanova cruised to comfortable 6-1. In that outing, Ava Borkowski and Collen Finnan both had a pair of goals for VU.

American is 4-4 on the 2025 campaign so far. After beginning the year 1-4 with losses to #5 Duke and James Madison, the Eagles are currently on a three-game winning streak. In this three-game stretch American has taken down Boston, Providence, and Colgate. In those three games the Eagles have just given up one goal. The 'Cats have a 0-1 record against the Eagles with their lone loss coming in 1996, 8-4.

The game on Sunday will be streamed live on ESPN +
