BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The pair of sophomore
Charlie Moore (Brisbane, Australia) and junior
CJ Sullivan (Milton, Mass.) earned individual awards, and Villanova came in eighth in the team standings in a stacked men's gold race at the Paul Short Run on Friday morning. Moore and Sullivan both finished in the top 13 out of more than 350 runners on the starting line. The top four finishers for the Wildcats all placed in the top 60 and the team's entire scoring five as in the top 100 as Villanova got its first real test of the season.
Moore covered the 8,000 meter Goodman Campus Course in 23:24.1 to finish in seventh place. He was followed by Sullivan in 13
th place with a time of 23:30.8. The top 25 individuals were presented with awards after the race. Their finishes helped the Wildcats tally a team score of 226 points and come in eighth out of 40 teams. The race featured a number of the top teams from the Mid-Atlantic Region and around the country in a preview of postseason competition to come later this season.
Each of the eight runners who competed for Villanova on Friday are in their first or second season of collegiate cross country eligibility. The sophomore duo of
Bailey Habler (Sydney, Australia) and
Jack Coomber (Brisbane, Australia) were the third and fourth scoring runners in 55
th place (24:08.6) and 57
th place (24:09.9), respectively. Redshirt freshman
Jack Fenlon (Laois, Ireland) rounded out the scoring runners in 97
th place with a time of 24:26.9.
The rest of the Wildcats lineup featured sophomore
Ben Thomas (Sydney, Australia) just behind Fenlon in 101
st place with a time of 24:29.9, while juniors
Nick Sullivan (Middletown, N.J.) and
Brian Theobald (Wall, N.J.) posted times of 25:27.2 and 26:18.8, respectively.
Villanova will next race in the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on October 17.
