UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.—Villanova closed out two days of competition at the Penn State National Open with another top 10 performance for the record book on Saturday afternoon. Senior middle distance runner
Alex Stasichin (Massapequa, N.Y.) tallied the eighth-fastest time in school history in the 600 meters with a personal best mark of 1:32.85 at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track to highlight the day's performances.
Stasichin ran in the invitational section of the 600 meters and recorded the fastest time by a Wildcats runner since the current school record was set by
Micah Trusty (Philadelphia, Pa.) in her collegiate rookie season two years ago. Sophomore
Caelen O'Leary (Taunton, Mass.) also competed in the 600 meters on Saturday and posted a time of 1:39.16.
Senior
Emily Robinson (Rogers, Ark.) and freshman
Bella Walsh (Middletown, Del.) tallied strong times in the 1000 meters. Robinson finished eighth in the invitational section of the race with a time of 2:49.09 and Walsh was the runner-up in the unseeded section with a time of 2:51.53. Both runners had competed in the 800 meters on Friday night before coming back on Saturday for their second events of the weekend.
Villanova high jumpers
Roschell Clayton (Montego Bay, Jamaica) and
Malaika Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) opened their 2025 seasons with marks of 1.77 meters and 1.68 meters, respectively. Clayton finished first out of 19 competitors in her first competition since Jamaica's Olympic trials last summer. She got off to a strong start and easily cleared the bar on her first attempt at installments of 1.71 meters, 1.74 meters and 1.77 meters.
In other events on Saturday, junior
Myonica Jackson (Bolingbrook, Ill.) tallied a time of 25.47 in the 200 meters and junior
Kinsey Pogue (Danville, Calif.) ran the 3K in 10:12.63. Villanova closed out the day with a time of 3:54.31 in the 4x400 meter relay.
Coming up next weekend the Wildcats will return to The Ott Center in Philadelphia for the Penn Classic on Saturday.
