NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference today announced the women's basketball major award winners and All-Conference honorees. Two Wildcats were honored by the league with freshman point guard
Jasmine Bascoe (Milton, Ontario) earning first team All-BIG EAST accolades and a spot on the All-Freshman Team, while sophomore guard
Maddie Webber (Bridgeville, Pa.) was named second team All-Conference.
Bascoe has started 27 of the 28 games she has played in this year and is averaging a team-leading 16.2 points per game to go with a 4.4 rebounds per contest average. She also leads the team in assists with 118 and steals with 57. She has reached double figures in 25 of the 28 games, including scoring 20 or more points on six occasions. Her 16.2 scoring average ranks sixth in the BIG EAST.
Bascoe joins Maddy Siegrist (2019-20) as the only Wildcats in program history to earn first team All-BIG EAST honors as a freshman.
Webber has started all 30 games this season and ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game. She currently leads Villanova in three-point field goals made with 51 and she ranks second on the team in assists with 60. Webber has scored double figures in 24 of the 30 contests, including a career-high 30 points in a win at DePaul on Feb. 12.
The Wildcats are the five seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament to be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Villanova is set to play 4-seeded Marquette on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m., in the quarterfinal round.
