VILLANOVA, Pa. – After a week away from competition, Villanova is back on the waters of the Cooper River this weekend for the Knecht Cup on Saturday and Sunday in Pennsauken, N.J.
 
The Wildcats are looking to build off their spring-opener showing at the Doc Hosea regatta that came with four Petite Final finishes. They head back to the Cooper River for their second event on the waters in Jersey along with 57 other teams who will be competing throughout the weekend in men's and women's races.
 
Saturday's day of racing will also be a celebration for the team as it honors its seniors along the shores of Cherry Hill.
 
This is the fourth straight season the 'Cats have raced in the regatta. Last year's two-day event was shaved down to a single day due to water conditions, forcing the teams to race in heats that led to finals later in the day. The highest showing for the 'Cats that day came from V8, finishing second in its heat at 6:51.10. This year, the two-day event is back to its normal racing schedule heading into the weekend with Villanova sending four boats in the water. A cold and rainy Saturday will feature heats that will determine places in afternoon semifinals. Those semifinals will pave the way to Sunday's finals action. The V4, 2V8 and V8 all have the chance to race twice on Saturday. The top two boats from each heat for the V4 and 2V8 will automatically qualify for the semifinals. The top three from each of the V8 heats will make their way to the semis. For all three boats, the remaining semifinal spots will go to the next fastest boats. The three Saturday heats of the 2V4 will vie for a spot in Sunday's finals.
