VILLANOVA, Pa. – For the first time in program history, Villanova softball (23-20-1) will be hosting a game under the lights as the Towson Tigers travel to the Villanova Softball Complex for a 5:00 p.m. game on Tuesday evening.
TAKING ON TOWSON
The Towson Tigers come to the Villanova Softball Complex on Tuesday for VU's inaugural night game in advance of hosting the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament on the Main Line. These teams did not meet last year but faced each other in doubleheaders the previous three years. Brooklyn Ostrowski got the start in right field during a 2021 win, Ava Franz & Alexa Raphael each started and singled in 2022 game one and Kelsey White notched two hits in game two that season. White and Franz each got two knocks in 2023 game one, and White hit a game two homer as well in the last time these programs met up.
BATTLED WITH THE BULLDOGS
The Wildcats took a trip out to Indianapolis for Easter weekend, taking part in a three-game set versus the Butler Bulldogs. Butler took the first two games to capture the series victory, but the 'Cats drew last blood in a run-rule victory on Sunday. Thursday's series opener was a low-scoring affair that the Bulldogs ended up taking 3-2. Villanova struck with a run in the first and seventh as freshman Ava Mahnken scored both runs during a three-hit outing, but Butler's three runs through the fifth and sixth gave BU the opener. Butler jumped ahead early with a 3-0 first-frame lead on Friday, adding a run in the second and limiting the 'Cats to just one run on a Madison Ostrowski RBI single in the sixth for a 4-1 defeat. But Villanova emerged with one win on the weekend, run-ruling Butler 8-0 in five innings to close the Friday doubleheader and series as a whole. Kat Gallant threw a three-hit shutout in the finale while Maddie Burrows totaled a career-high three hits and both Ostrowski sisters contributed two knocks.
