VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team is set to host George Mason for senior day Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the VU Softball Complex.
The 'Cats (9-34) come into the game having lost three consecutive, including in a midweek matchup with Towson Wednesday,
Villanova will be honoring its six seniors —
Madison Ostrowski,
Kendall Spivey,
Kat Gallant,
Bella Wren,
Maddie Burrows and
Lilly St. Jean. The proceedings will take place 20 minutes prior to the first pitch of the first game.
One of the seniors, Burrows, has continued to be a consistent presence for VU, batting 324 heading into the contest, which leads the team. Burrows missed two weeks due to injury, but has picked up where she left off upon her return, with hits in six of eight of her games since returning.
Pitching-wise, the 'Cats have seen
Carly Zych emerge as a solid option starting and out of the pen. In her last five outings, she has surrendered three or less earned runs, throwing a shutout in two of those outings.
All-time against the Patriots (22-19), VU sits at 3-3, and won the teams' last matchup, which took place Feb. 18, 2024, 10-7. George Mason has won three of its last five games heading into the weekend.
