OMAHA, Neb. – Center fielder
Austin Lemon and shortstop
Michael Whooley each posted two hits as the Villanova University baseball team fell to Creighton, 6-3, on Saturday night (April 26) at Charles Schwab Field.
Freshman

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats (20-19, 4-7 BIG EAST) got off to a hot start with a pair of first-pitch singles by Lemon and
John Freitag. Villanova eventually scored off of a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the top of the first. However, Creighton (27-12, 8-3 BIG EAST) answered in the bottom half of the opening frame, bringing home two runs behind three hits to take a 2-1 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, an RBI single by Leonard tied the game at two runs apiece. The Wildcats then took the lead with a base hit by Lemon in the top of the fourth.
The lead was short-lived, however, with the Bluejays tying the game at three off of a solo home run by Nate McHugh to begin the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Creighton took the lead with a leadoff double followed by an RBI triple.
The Bluejays tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh behind a walk and two hits. Despite a strong outing from Turzai out of the bullpen, the 'Cats were unable to overcome a 6-3 deficit in the late innings.
Creighton starter Jack Pineau improved to 2-0 with the win, while
Jake Francis fell to 5-2 with the loss. Bluejays reliever Jimmy Burke earned his first save of the season.
