VILLANOVA, Pa. – Men's Lacrosse will compete in their 13th consecutive BIG EAST Tournament as they take on the No. 3 Providence Friars in the 2025 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship Semifinal Presented by Jeep.
Faceoff will take place at 9:07 P.M., barring any delays from the prior semifinal matchup of No. 4 Marquette vs. No. 1 Georgetown.
The tournament is hosted by the University of Denver at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Wildcats are 2-10 in games played at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, with two of those losses suffered during postseason play. Their most recent game played at that field was an overtime win against Denver on March 29, where Colin Michener netted a goal from a low angle on the right wing after a lengthy lightning delay.
LAST TIME OUT
Villanova was outlasted by then No. 14 Georgetown last Friday 17-9. The offense was helped by six and four points by David Link and Colin Michener, respectively.
Link became the first Wildcat since Matt Campbell on April 1, 2023, to tally five assists in a game.
Matt Licata and Luke Raymond each scored twice for VU.
The game was tied 5-5 after the first frame, until the Hoyas went on a 6-0 run.
George Glomb had a standout game, winning over 10 faceoffs for the first time in his career, going 10-16 (.625).
Anthony Wilson replaced Denis Fargione in goal midway through the second stanza and saved seven shots throughout the remainder of the contest. That was his most saves since he stopped 10 in Villanova's upset of Yale on February 15.
PREVIOUSLY WITH PROVIDENCE
In their last time facing off, Villanova got the best of the Friars 11-8, behind four goals from Michener and four caused turnovers by Beau Kemler.
In the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament, these two teams faced off for the only time in postseason action, with Providence coming out on top by a score of 10-7. That season was also the most recent time that VU finished 4-1 in conference action.
FOR THE FRIARS
Providence had five players selected to All-BIG EAST teams, with Ryan Bell and Richie Joseph on the first team, the former a unanimous selection. While Dan Donahue, Jack Horrigan, and Quinn McConnaughey earned second team nods.
Bell is coming off of a 23-point BIG EAST season, including an eight-point game his last time out against St. John's. Horrigan netted seven goals against the Red Storm and four more in the game prior, in the same stadium that the two teams will be facing off in on Thursday.
