HOW IT HAPPENED

As Podgorski continued to shut down the Pirates (22-30, 8-11 BIG EAST) into the middle innings, Jason Neff extended the Villanova lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

Seton Hall finally got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring behind a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly. The run cut the Wildcats' lead to 4-1.

Valdez answered in the bottom half of the frame with a two-run single up the middle, scoring Collin Quintano and JoJo Montgomery to put Villanova ahead by five.

The Pirates hit a solo home run in the seventh to cut the VU lead to 6-2, however relief pitchers Graham Moore and Alec Sachais would hold Seton Hall scoreless the rest of the way.
