VILLANOVA, Pa. – A trio of Villanova Wildcats were recognized on Monday in the aftermath of an impressive 5-0 victory over Rider in the season opening match completed Friday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex.

Junior Sam Nyenka (Lower Merion, Pa.) was tabbed the Philly Soccer Six Player of the Week and named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after registering a pair of goals, including the game-winner, in his Villanova debut.

In addition, redshirt sophomore Luke Martelli (Kinzers, Pa.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his work at both ends of the pitch in the win over the Broncs. He netted his first goal in the 41st minute to go with his work on defense.

In addition, Freshman Gleb Bogdanov (Ryebrook, N.Y.,) was chosen as Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.

Villanova (1-0-0 overall) returns to action on Thursday at noon when it hosts Iona in a non-conference match set for kickoff just after noon (Villanova Athletics YouTube channel).
