Construction on Cavanaugh Family Boathouse Has Begun

After nearly two decades of planning, the wait is finally over.  Construction on the Cavanaugh Family Boathouse has begun. It may not yet look like much to the naked eye, but the seeds of the Villanova rowing future have officially been planted.

Norwood Construction has arrived on site and not only completed demolition of the old boathouse but has installed the footers that will serve as the foundation for the beautiful new state-of-the-art space.

Norwood will be sharing updated drone videos regularly and, in the future, host tours for those interested in seeing the project's progression.

When completed, the facility will feature locker rooms for both student-athletes and coaches, a video room, strength and conditioning space and a fueling station.

The Boathouse has been a labor of love for many in the Villanova rowing family and exemplifies both the University's commitment to the program's future, and the determination of the proud alums who rowed at Villanova, and the families who have supported their student-athletes.

Spearheaded by Terry, Patty and the entire Cavanaugh family, whose daughter, Maggie Cavanaugh '17 was a captain during her tenure, the new boathouse is the result of a true community effort. It is also part of the University's comprehensive campaign, Espiritus Nova: The Campaign for Villanova University, which prioritizes revitalizing and enhancing academic, athletic and community facilities.

"The Cavanaugh Family Boathouse will be a transformational facility for our rowing student-athletes and the Villanova community,'' said Eric Roedl, Vice President and Director of Athletics. "This facility is yet another example of Villanovan's coming together to provide a first-class student-athlete experience, and we are so grateful to the Cavanaugh family and all who have come together to help make this project a reality."

Villanova rowing looks forward to welcoming its entire family back in the spring, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
