PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Villanova University field hockey team will head to Philadelphia to take on BIG EAST foe Temple Friday (Sept. 26) at 1:00 p.m. Then they will return home to battle #15 Saint Joseph's at home Sunday (Sept. 28) at 12:00 p.m.
The 'Cats are coming off a two-game weekend where they hosted both rival UConn and defending champions, and top ranked Northwestern. Like usual, UConn and Villanova competed in a tight contest. The Huskies were barley able to squeak a win over the 'Cats, securing a 2-1 win. The game came down the wire with VU forcing an untimed penalty corner, but
Gemma Lysaght final shot was deflected. Villanova welcomed #1 Northwestern on Sunday. The 'Cats were able to keep it close with the defending champs for most of the game. Northwestern only scored their second goal in the final seconds of the second quarter. The 'Cats fell to Northwestern 5-0.
Temple has started the year winning seven of their first eight games and are currently on a five-game winning streak. Temple began the 2025 campaign with one-score wins over Delaware and Central Michigan before losing to Monmouth. Since then, the Owls have responded and have put together a five-game winning streak. Their wins have come over Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Drexel, and Georgetown. Villanova defeated Temple last season 3-0 and will look to make it back-to-back wins over the Owls.
#15 Saint Joseph's is currently 4-3 on the young season. They began the year with a thrilling, 2-1, OT win over UConn and another close victory against New Hampshire. Two of their three losses have come against BIG TEN team. Dropping a road game to #18 Penn State in OT and falling to Maryland in College Park 1-0. The Hawks last time out was a 2-0 defeat to Louisville at home.
