NEW YORK- Freshman Sophie Volkel earned her first BIG EAST honor by being selected as Rookie of the Week. Juniors Colleen Finnan and Gemma Lysaght also got recognized for BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Volkel earned the honor after having a fantastic weekend. In the two games Villanova played, Volkel helped lead the 'Cats to two wins, including an upset over #15 Saint Joseph's. She pitched her second career shutout against instate rival Temple and tallied eight saves on nine shots against the Hawks. In total she had 10 saves over the weekend and a 0.909 save percentage. This is the first honor in the young career of the Germany native.

Finnan and Lysaght earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this week for the 'Cats. Finnan had a great weekend putting in two goals and adding an assist to her stat line on Sunday against #15 Saint Joseph's. Lysaght was solid on the defensive end, helping the 'Cats only surrender one goal over the weekend. The New Zealand native also contributed with an assist in the Friday win over Temple and anchored the defense averaging 57 minutes over the weekend.
