TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Villanova men's and women's swimming teams fell to Florida State. The 12th-ranked Seminole men defeated the Wildcats 261-58, while the Seminole women earned a 205-114 victory over the 'Cats.
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Jana Strand,
Winnie Jalet,
Arabella Lee and
Riley Kudlac opened the meet with a third-place finish in 1:42.57. On the men's side,
Cole Gorsuch,
Hugh Boris,
Zach Sutter and
Max Kunisaki placed fourth with a time of 1:30.81.
In the 1000 Free,
Katie White finished second with a time of 10:04.82, followed by
Peri Gaguzis in third at 10:08.96. White's performance moved her into eighth on Villanova's all-time performers list.
Patrick Casey placed fourth in the 1000 Free, moving into fourth all time at Villanova.
Kayla Bolster recorded a third-place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 56.49, while Jalet was the runner-up in the 100 Breast. Jalet's performance ranks 10th on Villanova's all-time top times list.
Carlota Colomer Guasch finished second in the 50 Free with a time of 23.43, while Sutter placed third on the men's side, touching in at 20.55.
The Wildcats claimed the top two spots in the 200 Fly, with
Anna Farley winning in 1:59.10 and
Meghan Tiernan finishing second at 2:01.08.
Justin Nowicki took third with a time of 1:49.68.
Sutter moved into eighth on Villanova's all-time list in the 100 Free with a time of 45.70.
Alana Leen added another runner-up finish for the Wildcats in the 200 Back, touching in at 2:00.96.
White took the top spot in the 500 Free, touching the wall in 4:59.77. Farley earned her second win of the day in the 100 Fly, posting a time of 53.58, which improves her previous time and keeps her at No. 2 on Villanova's all-time list.
The two freshmen, Strand (26.40) and Bolster (26.81), moved into Villanova's record book, ranking ninth and 10th in the 50 Back, respectively.
Four more Wildcats earned spots in the program record book in the 100 IM.
Emily Herr finished fourth with a time of 57.97,
Meghan Tiernan took fifth in 58.26,
Alana Leen placed sixth at 58.67, and
Winnie Jalet rounded out the group in 10th with a time of 59.57.
To wrap up the day for the men, Nowicki and Kunisaki now share third on Villanova's all-time list in the 100 IM, each posting a time of 52.76.
Carter Gray also moved into the top five, claiming fifth all-time with a finish of 53.23.
Both teams return to the pool tomorrow to take on the University of North Florida at 4 p.m.
