LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Two members of Villanova's stout defensive unit landed spots on TopDrawerSoccer's Women's Midseason Top 100 Players List, as announced by the group on Wednesday. Junior defender
Meredith Palmer was No. 40 on the ledger while graduate goalkeeper
Hannah Dickinson was No. 85.
The veteran duo have been a part of a Villanova backfield that has racked up 10 shutouts this season with the WIldcats allowing just six goals through the first 14 games. Those 10 clean sheets are the most for the program since the 2007 team recorded 14.
Palmer is the highest BIG EAST player on the list. This season, the Waxhaw, N.C. native has started in all 14 games with 12 of those being full 90-minute outings. While she has been a steady force on the defensive side of the pitch, she has also helped Villanova score, accounting for a goal and an assist this season. She has been tabbed the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three times in her junior campaign while also earning Weekly Honor Roll status twice.
Dickinson has played in 1187 minutes of action this season with 14 starts. The Seattle, Wash. native is 9-0-5 on the year with eight shutouts. Her latest clean sheet moved her into a tie for third on the program's career shutouts list with 22 in her three seasons on the Main Line. She has been honored by the BIG EAST three times this season - once as the Goalkeeper of the Week and twice on the Weekly Honor Roll.
The defensive pair and the rest of the 'Cats are back in action Saturday as they head to Indianapolis, Ind. to face Butler at 7 p.m.
