VESTAL, N.Y. - Villanova women's lacrosse picked up a 15-7 win over Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
Elena Torres paced the Wildcats with a hat trick as Villanova controlled the draw 18-6, led by Emma Verhoest with 11 DCs in addition to her first career goal. Katie Clark added five caused turnovers and three ground balls while six other 'Cats contributed multi-point outings.
Leslie Iorio opened the scoring for the Wildcats (3-2), finishing an assist from Jillian Vaught to put Villanova on the board. The Wildcats added two more goals within the opening five minutes, as Bella Piselli found the back of the net off a feed from Torres before Torres scored herself moments later to extend the lead to 3-1. Kathryn Monaco then netted her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Rose Christie, giving Villanova a 4-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Binghamton used a four-goal run to open the second quarter and take a 5-4 lead. Villanova responded as Verhoest tallied the first goal of her collegiate career to even the score. Christie then converted on a free-position attempt to put the Wildcats back in front 6-5 before the Bearcats answered late to send the teams into halftime tied 6-6.
In the third quarter, Mary Moore scored off a feed from Sophia Corretjer while Ashlyn Hickey added her first goal of the season on a free-position attempt. Iorio scored on a man-up opportunity assisted by Piselli, and first-year Ava Simonton closed out the quarter with her first collegiate goal as a Wildcat, sending Villanova into the final frame with a 10-7 lead.
Moore opened the scoring for Villanova in the fourth quarter with her second goal of the day. Torres followed with back-to-back goals to give the Wildcats a 13-7 lead with six minutes remaining. Monaco then scored off an assist from Quinn McCarren, and Hickey closed out the quarter with her second goal of the day and season, assisted by Christie.
The Wildcats return to the field Wednesday at 2 p.m. for a road matchup against Siena.
