Shot Put and Discus Opened Men’s Competition at Danny Curran Invitational on Friday

CHESTER, Pa.—Villanova opened a busy weekend at the Danny Curran Invitational with competition in the shot put and discus at George A. Hansell Track on Friday afternoon. Freshman thrower Yianni Papanikolas (Toms River, N.J.) and junior Jonathan Evans (Springfield, Va.) had the top results of the day for the Wildcats with sixth place finishes in their respective events.
 
Papanikolas finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 15.09 meters to lead three Villanova athletes in the event. Sophomore Chris Coulter (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied a distance of 14.26 meters and senior Liam Anderson (Lebanon, N.J.) threw 13.95 meters.
 
In the discus, Evans placed sixth with a mark of 42.37 meters and tallied the second-best throw of his career behind his PR of 42.80 meters set at the Penn Challenge last week. Papanikolas competed in the discus for the first time as a collegian and threw 40.58 meters.
