VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team defeated Georgetown 5-3 Saturday afternoon at the VU Softball Complex.
With the win, the 'Cats (8-26, 4-7 BIG EAST) clinched their second BIG EAST series win of the season.
Maranda Runco also hit two home runs in the game, her second multi-home run game of the year and fourth of her career.
Concurrently, Runco (W, 2-2) started for Villanova in the circle, her first of the season, pitching five innings, striking out a career-high four batters, walking three and giving up three runs on three hits.
Runco began the scoring on the day with her first home run, which was to straight-center.
The Hoyas (9-13, 2-6) responded in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.

Jaclyn Morra to give Villanova a 2-1 lead. Georgetown once again tied the game in the top of the third on a wild pitch.

Elizabeth Gray and give the 'Cats a 3-2 lead.
VU extended the lead in the third on Runco's second home run, a two-run shot to make it 5-2.
The Hoyas scored once more in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 5-3. However,
Carly Zych, who came on in relief, shut out Georgetown in the final two innings.
Zych finished with a strikeout and recorded her first career save.
