VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team fell 7-5 to Georgetown in the series closer Sunday afternoon.
The 'Cats (8-27, 4-8 BIG EAST) clinched the series with Saturday's win, but could not achieve their first sweep of the season.
Lexi Kobryn (L, 2-8) got the start for the 'Cats, pitching two innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up four runs on four hits.
The Hoyas (10-13, 3-6) scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to get out to a 4-0 lead.
Villanova responded in the bottom of the second on an
Ava Mahnken RBI double and
Maranda Runco walk with the bases loaded to make it a 4-2 contest.
Georgetown added two more runs in the third and added another two in the fifth to extend its lead to 7-2.
The 'Cats rallied in the fifth for three runs, scoring first on a
Jaclyn Morra fielder's choice which scored
Grace Reed before
Carly Zych hit a sacrifice fly to right to bring home
Lilly St. Jean.
VU made it 7-5 on a double steal, which saw Mahnken swipe second and Morra sprint home.
