NEW YORK -- Another week, another round of BIG EAST weekly awards for Villanova men's lacrosse as three Wildcats were mentioned on Monday's accolades.
Jake Melchionni repeated as the Specialist of the Week for the third straight week,
Kessy Cox picked up his second career Freshman of the Week honor and
Jack Shoemaker was selected to his second Weekly Honor Roll of the season.
Melchionni earned his third top specialist honor in a row after he paced the squad with six caused turnovers in the pair of contests, contributing seven ground balls as well. The Delbarton product posted a team-best six ground balls at Drexel in addition to his season high four caused turnovers, adding two CTs against Penn.
Cox was named the league's best freshman after a performance as the team's leading scorer in a 1-1 week with five points on three goals and two assists. The first-year contributed his best performance as a collegian with a hat trick and a helper in the 11-10 victory at Drexel, then added an assist against Pennsylvania. The midfielder from Radnor now has 10 points on the year, including three multi-point outings and an assist in each of the last four contests.
Shoemaker tied for a team-best seven ground balls in the split week, adding a pair of caused turnovers for the 'Cats. The defenseman scooped up his season high with four GBs against Penn to follow a three-ground ball performance at Drexel, putting up a caused turnover apiece in each of the week's matchups. The Los Angeles native has caused a turnover in five of six games on the year and four multi-ground ball efforts.
Cox, Melchionni, Shoemaker and the Wildcats finish out a two-game home streak on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Towson Tigers at Villanova Stadium.
