PHILADELHPIA, Pa.—Junior sprinter
Olivia Allen (Kingwood, Texas) ran the second-fastest time of her career in an impressive fifth place championship finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2026 Penn Relays, celebrating with America250, at Franklin Field on Thursday evening. The highlights continued for Villanova with graduate student
Margaret Carroll (Mount Wolf, Pa.) breaking 16 minutes for the first time in her career in the 5000 meters. There were four events and eight athletes total in action for the Wildcats on the first day of the Relays.
Allen posted a time of 58.08 in the hurdles to finish second in her heat and fifth overall out of more than 40 athletes in the championship section of the race. Her time is particularly strong for this point in the season, with competition still to come at the BIG EAST Championships and the NCAA postseason meets. Her mark on Thursday evening trails only her lifetime best of 58.01 which was recorded in a gold medal performance at last year's BIG EAST meet.
Entering action around the country this weekend, Allen was ranked No. 26 in the East Region with a time of 58.43 from the Virginia Challenge last week. She moved up to 18
th at the time of tonight's race and is on track to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary for the second straight year. The top 48 declared athletes in each individual event are selected for the meet, which serves as the early rounds of the NCAA Championships.
Carroll also put herself in strong position to qualify for the NCAA East meet. She cruised to a personal best time of 15:54.86 in the 5000 meters, breaking 16 minutes for the first time and lowering her PR of 16:01.51 from this year's indoor season opener in Boston. Carroll moves into fourth place on this year's BIG EAST performance list and cut 20 seconds off the time she ran in the Penn Relays 5K last year. She has run this race at Penn three consecutive years. Freshman
Zoe Mosher (Pleasantville, N.S.) competed at the Penn Relays for the first time and posted a time of 16:46.58.
Graduate student
Nikki Vanasse (Martinsville, N.J.) and freshman
Sophia McInnes (Bayport, N.Y.) each ran the 1500 meters during Thursday night's championship races. Vanasse improved her season best time from last week in Virginia with a mark of 4:16.72, finishing fifth in her heat and 13
th overall. McInnes posted a time of 4:28.86 in her first collegiate Penn Relays after running here in high school at Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.).
Thursday started with the college section of the women's hammer throw at the Mondschein Throwing Complex where the freshman trio of
Jess Bentum (Deptford, N.J.),
Jane Carey (Webster, N.Y.) and
Kiera Christensen (Alexandria, Minn.) were all in action. Each of the three has already broken onto the Wildcats top 10 list in their first collegiate season. Bentum posted her second best mark of the season on Thursday with a distance of 48.62 meters. Carey and Christensen threw 43.78 meters and 40.41 meters, respectively.
The Championship of America in the women's distance medley relay kicks off Friday's action for the Wildcats at 2:25 p.m., with the day also included women's javelin at 5:15 p.m.
