Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Villanova softball team lost 6-3 to Providence Sunday at Glay Field.
The 'Cats (11-38, 5-16 BIG EAST) head into their final week of the season ninth place in BIG EAST.
Maranda Runco got the start for VU, pitching two innings, walking one and surrendering six earned runs on seven hits.
The Friars (26-15, 15-3) scored first, scoring one run in the first before adding five more in the second inning.
Lexi Kobryn came on in relief in the third inning, shutting out Providence for the remainder of the contest. Kobryn pitched four innings, striking out one and giving up a single hit.
Villanova got on the board in the fourth inning after
Kendall Spivey scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-1. On the following play,
Jaclyn Morra grounded out to short, scoring
Ava Mahnken from third.
VU scored a third run in the top of the sixth on a
Mackenzie Waghorn sacrifice fly to left which brought across Kobryn to bring the score to 6-3.
A quiet seventh inning ended the contest and series, with Providence completing the sweep.
