Roventini’s Walk-Off Lifts Villanova Past Saint Joseph’s, 8–7

Wildcats Complete Comeback with Ninth-Inning Walk-Off

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova baseball team earned an 8–7 walk-off victory over Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, April 28. Freshman Jack Roventini delivered the game-winner with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.

Saint Joseph's struck first in the second inning, opening with three consecutive hits to take an early 1–0 lead. Villanova limited the damage, however, turning a bases-loaded double play to end the threat.

The Hawks extended their lead in the third with a two-out solo home run, then added two more runs in the fourth. A leadoff double followed by a single to left-center pushed the score to 3–0, and a sacrifice fly made it 4–0.

Villanova responded in the bottom of the fourth with a five-run inning. Brayden Leonard started the rally with an RBI hit to score John Freitag, and Mark Gialluisi followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half. With runners on the corners, Roventini laid down a perfect bunt to bring home another run. JoJo Montgomery continued his hot streak with an RBI single to tie the game at four, and Freitag drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Wildcats a 5–4 lead.

Collin Quintano added insurance in the sixth, blasting a solo home run off the left-field foul pole—his ninth of the season—to extend the lead to 6–4.

Saint Joseph's chipped away in the seventh, scoring on a groundout after back-to-back singles. With the bases loaded, Jeremiah Holder recorded a key strikeout to end the inning and preserve the lead.

In the ninth, JP Podgorski came on to close it out with a one-run advantage. After recording two outs, the Hawks rallied for two runs to reclaim a 7–6 lead.

Villanova had the final answer. With two outs and runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth, Roventini lined a single into center field, driving in both runs to secure the walk-off victory and the Wildcats' second straight win.
