New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.
 Â
VILLANOVA, Pa.—The men's track & field 4xMile team won its third Championship of America title in the last four years at the Penn Relays on a memorable weekend for Villanova at America's oldest and largest track & field competition. The women's track & field distance medley and 4x1500 meter relays also had strong results. The men's and women's lacrosse teams wrapped up regular season competition over the weekend, while the rowing team had a successful trip to the Lake Wheeler Invitational, and both the baseball and softball teams continued BIG EAST play. This week's Villanova Athletics Weekly Wrap sponsored by Zajac and Padilla consists of four individual student-athletes and three team selections.
Â
Baseball
Matthew Kahn
Sophomore, Pitcher, Mount Laurel, N.J.
Â
Kahn recorded nine outs – including a career high six strikeouts – and earned his first career save at Seton Hall to lock up Villanova's first BIG EAST win of the season. He entered the game with two runners on base in the seventh inning and went on to allow just two hits without a walk while retiring nine of the game's final 10 batters. He struck out the final two batters of the seventh inning who each represented the potential tying run, then recorded two strikeouts in both the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the victory. Â
Â
Men's Lacrosse
Jake Melchionni
Junior, Long Stick Midfield, Bernardsville, N.J.
Â
Melchionni had seven ground balls and a season high five caused turnovers in Villanova's regular season finale against No. 8 Georgetown. It was the seventh time in 13 games played on the year that he had six or more ground balls, while the five caused turnovers were the second most in a game by any Wildcats player this season. Melchionni was named the BIG EAST Specialist of the Week and earned a spot on the USILA Team of the Week for his performance.
Â
Women's Lacrosse
Mary Moore
Redshirt Sophomore, Midfield, Annapolis, Md.
Â
Moore has been a mainstay on the Weekly Wrap this Spring and she closed out the season in style by recording career highs of six goals and eight points in a dominant 18-9 win over Butler. Moore's goals scored and points were each the most in a game by a Villanova player this season, and she scored four goals in the first half as the Wildcats built a 9-3 advantage. Moore also had two assists in the game and was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week for her performance. Later in the week, she was named to the All-BIG EAST first team and was one of six Wildcats to earn all-conference honors.
Â
Rowing
Varsity 8
Cate Donnelly, Maggie Coyne, Jalyn Colon, Sylvia Marks, Ava DeJong, Ella Cooper, Farrah Bardouille, Sarah Robillard, Natalia Peng
Â
Villanova traveled to Richmond, Va. to compete in the Lake Wheeler Invitational for the second straight year. They were matched up against nationally ranked competition during the weekend, including the Varsity 8 boat which came in third in a second round heat behind only No. 15 Alabama and No. 22 North Carolina. That result helped the team build momentum for its final race of the weekend in which the Wildcats had a season best time of 6:43.960. Villanova's Varsity 8 was named the CAA Boat of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time since 2022.
Â
Softball
Ava Mahnken
Sophomore, Sophomore, Catcher, Staten Island, N.Y.
Â
Mahnken helped power the Wildcats to a 16-11 midweek win at Penn with her third home run of the season. She went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI in the game, including a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run single in the top of the fifth as Villanova built a big lead and never looked back. Mahnken finished the week batting .500 (5-for-10) with four runs scored and three RBI over three games played.

Men's Outdoor Track & Field
4xMile Relay
Sean Donoghue, Ben Thomas, Bailey Habler, Marco Langon
Â
Villanova won its 98th all-time Championship of America wheel at the Penn Relays and its 23rd in the 4xMile relay. This is the third time in the last four years that the Wildcats have won the 4xMile and the win came in thrilling fashion as Villanova held off runner-up Oregon by just five-hundredths of a second at the finish line. The race was highlighted by Habler and Langon running splits of 3:56.94 and 3:55.94, respectively, on the second half of the relay. Langon also anchored the distance medley relay to a second place finish one day earlier and was named the College Men's Athlete of the Meet for the Relay events.
Â
Women's Outdoor Track & Field
Distance Medley Relay
Rosie Shay, Olivia Allen, Bella Walsh, Tilly O'Connor
Â
Villanova ran the second-fastest distance medley relay in school history and finished more than a second faster than its indoor school record from earlier this year with a third place finish in the Championship of America race at the Penn Relays. The Wildcats posted a time of 10:48.84 and had two of the six fastest relay splits in school history on the first half of the race. Shay's leadoff leg of 3:18.79 over 1200 meters is the second-fastest that any Villanovan has led off a DMR, while Allen split 52.71 on the second leg for the program's sixth-fastest 400 meter relay split. Walsh had a split of 2:03.97 on the 800 meter leg (top 20 in school history) and O'Connor anchored the race in 4:33.39 and held off challengers from Clemson and Washington for all of her 1600 meter anchor leg.
