COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Villanova field hockey team collected the runaway win over Queens University of Charlotte, 9-0. The program moves to 4-1 on the season, matching their best start since the 2022 season.

Ava Borkowski collected a new career high in goals with four on the afternoon. Senior
Colleen Finnan tallied a career high six points in the win off two goals and two assists. Freshman
Sophie Wenk collected her first career goal and assist in the contest, totaling three points.
The 'Cats got the action going early in the first quarter with back-to-back penalty corners within the first three minutes. On the first chance, it was a shot by Gemma Lysaght that was blocked, however on the second it was Ava Borkowski who found the back of the goal for her fourth goal of the season. Colleen Finnan set up the goal off a redirected shot by Lysaght. Just three minutes later, it was once again Borkowski that put VU up 2-0. The goal was assisted by Adie Minnella. The offense kept things rolling throughout the entire first quarter, tallying 13 shots and three penalty corners. The first quarter of action was capped off with a goal by Colleen Finnan, who shot past the defense and collected her third goal of the season to give the 'Cats a 3-0.
The second quarter is where Villanova really started to pull away from its opponent. Scoring four goals in the frame in only eight shots. It was once again Borkowski who showed off the skills offensively to collect her third goal of the afternoon for a hat trick, the third of her career. Both Aimee Largoza and Colleen Finnan picked up assists on the goal, marking the second of the afternoon for Finnan. The 'Cats continued to keep the pressure on the Royals where it was Emma Foscarini picking up the penalty corner just three minutes after the goal. On the chance, Allysen Whitehead found Addie Froehlich for the opportunity and the senior didn't miss, putting the 'Cats up 5-0. Later on, it was Maeve Boston who got into the action and drew another penalty corner for Villanova. On the corner, Molly Zimmerman passed to Maeve Boston who set up Colleen Finnan for the blast and a goal. The goal marked Finnan's second of the day and her sixth point of the afternoon. The final goal of the quarter saw Carey Werley collect her second goal in back-to-back games and push the score to 7-0. Boston picked up her second assist of the afternoon on the goal as well as freshman Sophie Wenk who collected her first career point.
Like the previous two quarters, the scoring once again started quick. Where just three minutes in it was Adie Minnella who found Ava Borkowski for a breakaway opportunity. The graduate student drove into the center of the circle and sliced the ball past the goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the day and sixth of the season. The four goal performance broke Borkowski's previous career high of three in one game. Villanova's offense stayed hot throughout the third, totaling five shots and a penalty corner. The quarter was wrapped up by a goal by Sophie Wenk, the first of her career, with just under a minute left. The 'Cats exited the frame up 9-0.
The action slowed down throughout the fourth quarter with neither side finding the goal. The defensive units for both Villanova and Queens held off each other's limited opportunities. Queens University didn't record a shot while the Wildcats tallied five shots in the frame. As time expired the 'Cats picked up the 9-0 victory and moved to 4-1 on the season.
Once again it was Maddi Sears and Famke Poolman who combined for the shutout win over the Royals. Sears moved to 4-1 on the season while Poolman held down the section half action and collected a save.
