Facing the Ivy League: Thursday is the second of three meetings the Wildcats have with the Ivy League this season. With a 2-0 win at Columbia on August 27, Villanova is now 33-23-9 against the league all-time and 4-2-4 against under in Azem's tenure.

Spreading the Wealth: Villanova's offense has racked up 65 points this season from 18 players on 22 goals and 21 assists. Of those point scorers, eight have registered both a goal and an assist.

And the Honor Goes To...: Villanova's balanced attack of 13 unanswered goals in the week ending on August 30 brought a number of honors for the 'Cats with Avrie Nelsen landing BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, Meredith Palmer named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Hannah Dickinson on the Honor Roll. Nelsen also earned a TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week laurel for her team-leading eight point performance.

Goals, Literally: The Wildcats put on scoring clinics just two weeks apart with a 9-0 win at Lehigh on August 16 and an 11-0 win over Iona on August 30. Both games saw eight different goal scorers find the back of the net in those contests. The 11 goals over the goals are now tied for the second most in program history for  single game while the nine over the Mountain Hawks are tied for eighth-most. Before this season, the last time the 'Cats had put up numbers like that in a contest was an 11-0 win over St. Peter's on Sept. 11, 2007.

• The team's 22 goals have been scored by 13 different Wildcats with seven of them scoring at least twice this season. Avrie Nelsen leads the team with four goals, all coming just last week. She's averaging a goal a game this season with that number, landing her at second in the BIG EAST and 17th nationally while her 2.25 points per game are second and 26th, respectively. The same can be said for the groups' 21 assists with 13 having a helper this year led by Kaydee Amorosa and Dez Zapata who have three assists each.
• At 3-0-1 to start the season, Villanova is off to its best start since 2023 when the team went unbeaten through its first nine games of the year at 4-0-5. The last time they had three wins by this point in the season was back in 2021 when the team went 6-0 to open the year.
• This is the 22nd meeting between the Philly foes with Villanova leading the over ledger with a commanding 15-3-3 record. When hosting the matchups, Villanova is 7-1-1 and how outscored the Quakers by a stout 27-4 margin. The lone loss in that time was a 1-0 loss on Sept. 9, 2011.
• Villanova's 3-1 win at Penn last year was powered by an Avrie Nelsen brace that took just over four minutes for the then-freshman to log. All four combined goals scored in that contest came in a span of six and a half minutes with Mia Fuss scoring between Nelsen's goals. Morgan Kotch punched in the final goal in the 38th minute. 
• Thursday's match is UNITAS Day at Higgins Soccer Complex where the team will be honoring the Every Mind Matters initiative that works to increase mental health awareness and advocacy within the Athletic Department. 

• Penn is on bounce-back watch after a 2-0 loss at Stony Brook on Sunday. The lone win of the season so far for the Quakers was a 3-1 victory against George Washington on August 27. All-told for the year, they are 1-2-1 on the year and are narrowly being outscored 3-4 through four games.
• The Quakers have yet to see a road win this season after going 2-1-2 away from Rhodes Field last season. Their last road victory was a 2-1 decision at Harvard on Oct. 25, 2025.
• Senior goalkeeper Megan Graves has played all 360 minutes for Penn this year. In her 41 shots faced, she has made 12 saves for a .750 save percentage and a 1.00 GAA.
• Casey Forman, Abbey Cook and Mia Fuss have all registered a goal for the Quakers this season. Forman leads the team with three points, adding an assist in the win over George Washington. Cook has been the leading shot taker with four of her six shots landing on frame.

Villanova 11, Iona 0 | August 30, 2026 - Villanova, Pa. - Higgins Soccer Complex
 

There were fireworks aplenty in Villanova's home debut for the 2026 season with eight different Wildcats finding the back of the net as the Wildcats stormed past Iona 11-0. The 11 goals are tied for the second-most scored in a single game in Villanova history, matching winning scores seen on Sept. 11, 2007 against Saint Peter's and Oct. 27, 2002 against Howard. With the shutout over Iona, Villanova has still yet to allow a goal this season through four matches. Avrie Nelsen led the Blue and White scoring brigade with three goals, marking the first hat trick of her career. Bella Panaccione was close by in the scoring column, nettingher first two career goals. The Wildcat offense thundered the shot tally with a 27-1 advantage, 18-0 for shots on goal. Villanova commanded the game to the tune of a 15-1 shot advantage through the opening frame, forcing Kalbaugh to make four saves in that span. Graduate goalkeeper Hannah Dickinson recorded the win as she, Reese Tremper and Natalie Mutschler combined for the shutout.
