SEPTEMBER 2026 | CULTIVATING COMMUNITY, CULTURE & ENGAGEMENT

Welcome to a new academic year at Villanova Athletics!

The beginning of every school year brings the excitement of possibility. This year, perhaps more than most, also brings change. While change is inevitable, it often comes with uncertainty, anticipation, new beginnings, and incredible opportunities for growth—personally, academically, and professionally.

One of the changes I look forward to most is welcoming all of the new faces joining our community. Every new student, student-athlete, coach, staff member, and administrator brings a unique combination of experiences, personalities, cultures, identities, talents, interests, and perspectives that make Villanova stronger.

To our newest Wildcats—Welcome.

To those returning who have brightened our days and enriched our community year after year—welcome home.

At Villanova Athletics UNITAS, we celebrate the diversity of our community and the countless ways each person contributes to making this a place where everyone can thrive. Thank you for bringing your authentic self to Villanova. Your story matters here.

Introducing UNITAS 2.0

With change comes evolution.

After a year of assessment, learning journeys, listening, and reflection, I am excited to introduce to what will soon become UNITAS 2.0.

While our mission remains rooted in our Augustinian values, we have intentionally evolved our work to better serve our students, coaches, and staff. Athletics UNITAS: Community, Culture, and Engagement is now organized around six strategic pillars designed to strengthen our department, deepen relationships, create meaningful learning experiences, and cultivate a community where everyone has the opportunity to belong and flourish. Those pillars are:

  • Belonging & Student-Athlete Success
  • Culture of Excellence
  • Talent Acquisition & Leadership Excellence
  • Integrity, Values & Leadership
  • Community Engagement & Revenue Growth
  • Cultural Celebrations & Campus Partnerships

Our work is inspired by the Augustinian belief that we are rooted in our values and restless in our pursuit of becoming what we are not yet. Growth is not a destination—it is a lifelong journey.

Join Us

This year, I invite you to become an active part of that journey: Attend a UNITAS event. Join one of our UNITAS student groups. Celebrate cultures and identities. Challenge yourself to learn something new.
Most importantly, continue to embrace exactly who you are. Share your gifts. Lift others up. Listen deeply. Learn continuously. Lead with courage and compassion.
Throughout the year, follow our social media, read our newsletters, participate in conversations, and join us as we build an even stronger Villanova Athletics community together.
One of my favorite reminders is that community is a verb.
Community isn’t something we simply belong to—it’s something we actively create.
We work on ourselves. We invest in others. We grow together. And then we repeat.

I promise to lead, but I also promise to follow your lead when your experiences, voices, and wisdom teach me something new. That’s what community looks like.

Join Me in Learning

One of the simplest ways we can grow is by remaining curious. Each edition of Leashia’s Corner will include something I’m currently learning that I hope might inspire you, too.

I am currently reading: Calling for a Blanket Dance by Oscar Hokeah
I am currently listening to: The Framework for Leading with Both Care and Accountability (Podcast)
I am currently watching (Again!): 37 Words: Generation Next
I am learning: about communication through conflict and culture

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your Villanova journey. I cannot wait to learn alongside you this year.

Here’s to another year of community, growth, courage, and belonging.

With gratitude,

Leashia Lewis
Assistant Athletic Director
