NEW YORK – For the second consecutive week,
Meredith Palmer and
Avrie Nelsen have landed on the BIG EAST Weekly Honors ledger. Palmer was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week with Nelsen landing on the Honor Roll.
These honors bring Villanova to six weekly awards from the conference this season with at least one Wildcat being honored in three of the four weeks awards have been announced.
Palmer's second Defensive Player of the Week honor comes after she played the full 90 minutes for the third time this season in Thursday's 1-0 win over Penn. The victory was the fifth straight clean sheet for the 'Cats this season and their fourth consecutive win. The Waxhaw, North Carolina native has been a consistent part of a Villanova defense that leads the BIG EAST in shutouts, is tied for fourth in the nation with those five shutouts and is one of five teams to still not allow a goal as of last Thursday.
Nelsen's Weekly Honor Roll nod finds her in the midst of a scoring blitz of her own, logging at least one point in four straight games. She continued that run in the win over Penn by scoring the game-winning goal in the 77
th minute. In the last three games, she has netted a team-high five goals and leads the team with 11 points.
Villanova is back at home on Thursday as Bucknell comes to town for a 4 p.m. first kick.
