Recorded five outs against Central Michigan to earn his first collegiate victory in a 5-4 win on March 4 … Logged a season-high two perfect innings with two strikeouts and earned his first career save in a 5-1 win over Butler on May 7.
 
2016: Pitched in 17 games out of the bullpen in a strong start to his collegiate career … Held opposing batters to a .253 average while pitching 20.0 innings and allowing 20 hits … Gave up just one home run to 91 batters faced … Pitched two scoreless innings and matched a season high with three strikeouts against Hartford on March 25 … That appearance came during a stretch of four games (March 19-April 6) in which he logged five scoreless innings while giving up five hits and striking out six … Did not allow an earned run in 10 of his 17 outings … Pitched more than one inning seven times … Tossed a season-high three innings and had three strikeouts at Xavier on May 20 … Pitched a hitless inning with a walk and two strikeouts in a win over Georgetown on May 15 … Worked a 1-2-3 inning at Stetson in his collegiate debut on March 4.
 
Club Baseball: Played for the Marucci Elite and NJ ‘9ers club teams … His Marcucci team won the World Wooden Bat Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. … Earned second team All-Northeast recognition from Perfect Game.
 
Hun School: Earned four varsity letters in baseball and two in basketball as a guard … Pitched and plyed the outfield for the baseball team, and was selected as the 2015 Prep Player of the Year … Three-time All-MAPL first team selection from his sophomore through senior seasons … Two-time first team all-area choice as a junior and a senior … Named a top player to watch in Mercer County by NJ.com and was selected as a preseason All-American by UnderArmour prior to his senior season … Batted .325 during his scholastic career … As a senior, compiled a 9-0 record and a 0.76 ERA to lead the MAPL in both categories … Had the second-highest win total as a pitcher in school history … Achieved Honor Roll status academically three times.
 
Personal: Born 9/3/97 in Columbus, N.J. … Older of two sons of Robert and Diane Applegate … Has a younger brother, Carson (15), and coaches his youth baseball and basketball teams … Enjoys playing the piano in his spare time … Mother is a 1988 graduate from the Villanova College of Nursing … Chose to attend Villanova for the opportunity to enroll in a renowned nursing program and also for the chance to play Division I baseball … Nursing major.
