Lenny Smith

Lenny Smith begins his first year as a defensive assistant on the Villanova coaching staff in 2019.  He will also recruit areas of New York, including Sections 3, 4, 5 and 6.  Smith comes to the Wildcats after spending the 2018 season at Division III Cortland.

Smith worked with the linebackers and long snappers at Cortland in 2018 after previously being an assistant coach working with the inside linebackers and long snappers at Muhlenberg during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.  He was responsible for recruiting an area which included Connecticut, New Jersey and New York in addition to handling on-campus recruiting visits and day of game visits.

In his coaching stint at his alma mater, Muhlenberg, Smith assisted with player development and prepared practice plans for the team’s linebackers.  His coaching duties included teaching the skills, techniques and strategies of a 3-4 defense while assisting with weekly game preparation.  Smith signaled defensive calls during practices and games.  He also coordinated and scheduled JV games.

Smith was a two-year starter at inside linebacker for Muhlenberg, where he earned all-conference honors and was a 2016 team captain.  Upon joining the coaching staff, Smith organized the program’s “Be The Match” donor registry event in the fall of 2017.  He was also an annual “Mule Madness” volunteer and worked with Lauren’s First and Goal Camp.

Smith earned his undergraduate degree in Media and Communications from Muhlenberg.
