Villanova added Kirk Johnson, Ed.D., to its staff in the fall of 2022 as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. The Chester Springs, Pa., native, brings a vast background in coaching and training with him to the Wildcats.
“I’m thrilled to add local legend, Dr. Kirk Johnson to our coaching staff," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin in making the announcement of Johnson's addition to the staff. "Kirk has won at every level as a player as well as a coach. Kirk’s tactical eye for the game coupled with his intense love for competition will bring added value to our staff. As the “Special Assistant to the Head Coach”, Kirk will be a valued sounding board for our staff on game days."
Johnson first made his mark as a standout player. At Downingtown High School he was named the 2000 Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year and All-American. The forward went on to excel at Syracuse University, finishing as the Orange’s sixth all-time leader in goals scored (30). He was also a two-time Academic All-BIG EAST selection.
Johnson joined Radnor Soccer Club as its Director of Coaching – Boys Travel in 2017 and later served as Director of Coaching for the entire travel program. In this capacity, he oversees the trainers and teams for the travel program, from the U7 Futures Program on up.
In 2005, Johnson was elected to the FC Delco Hall of Fame. He also held numerous coaching and technical positions with FC Delco in the years since, including stints as its
Coach of the Academy, Head Coach for Boys Teams from U9 to U19 and Assistant Director of Coaching. He has also served as Head Soccer Coach at Downingtown East High School and as an Assistant Coach at West Chester University.
